Dr. Bashir Ahmed Khilji,
Head of Department
I have watched with deep interest the progress of the department of Economics. As first program, M.Sc Eco was launched on 11th Aug, 2003. In the first batch only 27 students were admitted and now more than 300 are admitted on M.Sc (Morning & Evening class). B.S (Eco & Finance), M.Phil Economics and PhD Economics. All these degree courses have been imparting Economics, education and research. I am encouraged to see that the quality of education has been sustained by the well competent and experienced faculty. In the changing scenario of instruction technology, the constructive theory of learning has become the mainstay of the teaching learning process. Contrary to this, the students have been treated as passive learners. Integration of tools of technology with education has created different circumstances in which the learner are an active participants and are thus able to use their creative abilities for economic problem solving. Our motto is the student of this department must be able to compete with all the countries of South Asia at least as we follow the HEC Standardized syllabus and other terms and conditions in all the programs. This department is now crowning its path in important areas of Eco research.
Whereas the teachers of this department are fully involved in the teaching & training of the students. I hope to prove the subject applied with the economy as we grow, a more intense relationship can be developed between the university and the industry. This is necessary for the development and transformation of knowledge into the technology. I see the bright future of the subject and wish the NUML a great success in the times to come. The increasing strength of the students in all the program are evident for the accelerated growth of the department.
