Program Objectives

  • To develop prospective teachers’ communication and   spoken English skills.
  • To comprehend the concept of education, especially, formal education with an emphasis on the process of education.
  • To gain insight into the working of human mind through study of the major findings in cognitive psychology.
  • To acquire adequate knowledge about the major educational philosophies currently in vogue.
  • To develop the spirit of loyalty for the profession of teaching and to follow the professional code of ethics in the light of various educational philosophies.
  • To train prospective teachers in pedagogical skills of teaching of social and natural sciences.
  • To instruct prospective teachers about the importance of motivation in learning process and also train them in exercise of various classroom motivational techniques.
  • To establish knowledge base in the field of teacher education for personal and professional growth.
  • To teach guidance and counseling theories and process of counseling for vocational and educational guidance.
  • To describe the role of education in transmitting the cultural and social values of the society.
  • To inculcate the role of liberal education in enhancing individuals’ tolerance and open-mindedness.
  • To produce effective educational leaders by introducing the concept and roles of educational administration, management, and supervision in the field of education.
  • To grasp the concept of curriculum, its development processes, and its importance in the field of education.
  • To create mind- sets to critically analyze the future role of teacher in a turbulent world to safe guard the identity and security of Pakistan.
  • To produce proficient, skillful professionals for an era of information communication technologies.
  • To produce knowledgeable and confident teachers of the modern world with an awareness of comparative education.
  • To teach the concept of research along with methods of conducting research.
  • To instruct students about the concept, process, importance of educational measurement and evaluation and rules of test  construction.
  • To enable prospective teachers to conduct independent researches projects and write comprehensive research reports.
  • To teach the current trends in the field of education and the issues related to these trends in education.

Course Details

  • The aim of M. A Education is to transmit quality education to all enrolled students in the program. It is committed to train prospective teachers so that they can make significant contributions towards the betterment of society.  The programme of study and research consists of 20 courses of 3 credit hours each, spread over four semesters of 2 years’ duration. In the fourth semester the students receive practicum training of 6 credit hours.
  • In the 4th semester, the students are given the option of writing thesis for 6 credit hours in lieu of 2 courses. The choice of thesis / course work is made in the very first week of the 3rd semester and the Thesis Supervisory Committee is formed accordingly. There are two kinds of practical training
    • Ten days within their own classroom --------Short term training
    • 30 days in a school environment  ------------Long term training
    • Each student is required to teach at least two subjects at secondary level during teaching practice.
       
  • Assessment Criteria
    • Midterm Examination = 50%
    • Individual Presentations, Group Discussions, Term Assignments and Quizzes= 25%
    • Final Examination = 75%

Admission Criteria

  • Minimum 2nd division in Bachelor degree from a recognize college/ university
  • Qualifying in written entry test
  • Qualifying in interview.
